Nestled in the heart of Kirkwall (the capital of Orkney) is our lovely 2-bedroom cottage
Earl Thorfinn Cottage offers the perfect blend of convenience and tranquility, located just a 5-minute stroll from the heart of Kirkwall, Orkney's largest town. Despite its central location, the cottage is tucked away in a peaceful area with the added convenience of free parking. It features a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, a new kitchen, a separate living room, and a modern shower room/bathroom, making it an ideal retreat for up to four guests.
Guests are spoiled for choice with a variety of nearby coffee shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Just a few minutes’ walk away, William Shearer’s provides an impressive selection of whole foods, local delicacies including Orkney's freshly baked bread, cakes, fresh ground coffee and local fish and meats.
As a base, Kirkwall is ideal for exploring both local landmarks and the wider Orkney Mainland. Discover historical sites like St. Magnus Cathedral and Earl's Palace, enjoy a walk along Scapa Beach, or tour Highland Park and Scapa Whisky Distilleries. The cottage is also well-situated for excursions further afield to the West Mainland with its Neolithic sites, like Skara Brae and the Standing Stones of Stenness, as well as the East Mainland attractions such as the Italian Chapel and the WWII Churchill Barriers.
For those looking to explore beyond the Mainland, Kirkwall Harbour offers daily boat trips to the Orkney outer isles, such as Westray, Papa Westray, Eday, and Shapinsay, each with its own unique charm and sights to explore.
